About the VNC
The VNC brings together the shipping agents who keep the Netherlands moving. As one united network, they share knowledge, speak with one voice, and strengthen the port logistics chain—making it more efficient, safer, and more sustainable.
The maritime sector is a dynamic, 24/7 industry and a vital pillar of the Dutch economy. Every year, tens of thousands of seagoing vessels call at Dutch ports, where hundreds of millions of tonnes of cargo are handled.
The shipping agent—also known as the port agent—is the vital link within the port. In this role, the shipping agent coordinates and communicates with all parties across the logistics chain, from authorities and terminal operators to shipping companies and cargo stakeholders. By bringing these parties together, the shipping agent ensures the efficient and seamless handling of both vessel and cargo, while always placing the welfare of the crew at the heart of its operations.
